My name is Layne and I am a lover of all things fitness (or MOST things fitness), but this was not always the case.
As a child/ teenager I was involved in a variety of activities (gymnastics, swimming, dance, softball, volleyball, soccer, and horseback riding to name a few), but in high school focused mainly on competitive cheerleading.
I worked out diligently, but not because I necessarily enjoyed exercising. I was always trying to get stronger and thinner to be a better tumbler, and flier. I wanted to cheer in college, so I put a lot of pressure on myself to be as fit possible.
When cheering in college did not happen for me I struggled to find the motivation to be active. I however did not lose the motivation to go overboard on the sugary coffees and late night grilled cheese sandwiches. The freshman fifteen (okay a little more than that) was a reality for me.
In 2010 I realized how much I missed being active, and that I NEEDED to make some consistent lifestyle changes. I started exercising regularly, then added Exercise Sports Science as a second major.
This year, I ran a few more races, started working on my Master’s in Exercise Psychology, teaching group fitness classes, teaching Lifetime Physical Activity and Fitness (an undergrad class), working with overweight/ obese teenagers, and I have lost a significant amount of weight myself.
Living an active lifestyle and being physically fit is something that I am passionate about. I love reading about it, talking about it, even thinking about it.
I hope you will continue to follow me through more exciting fitness adventures!
