I am a creature if habit. I tend to relish in the routine, and don’t generally find myself becoming bored. I did not think I was becoming bored with my running routine. I was looking forward to my workouts everyday, and getting great satisfaction from crossing them off of my training schedule. After spending a few days in this little slice of running paradise, I have decided that I need to rethink how I am doing things.
I spent a few days in Savannah, Georgia with my family and loved every minute of it. I actually woke up early and went out for runs while I was on vacation, and loved it. My surroundings were so beautiful it felt like a treat to be outside. There was historic architecture, ancient trees, and interesting characters all around me. I was flooded with happiness.
I know that not every run can be this enjoyable, but it made me realize that by being so comfortable in my running routine I am selling myself short. Although the predictability of running the same two or three (non-scenic) routes is comforting to me I am limiting myself and not embracing the full experience of being a runner.
